What is bacteriostatic water?
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water for injection containing a small amount of benzyl alcohol
to inhibit microbial growth. In research settings it is used as a preserved diluent for
reconstituting lyophilized peptide powders and preparing aqueous solutions where extended in-use stability
is advantageous.
Typical laboratory applications:
- reconstitution of lyophilized peptide powders
- preparation of small-volume aqueous solutions
- workflow support where a preserved diluent is preferred
