What is Thymulin?

Thymulin is a non-peptide hormonal factor produced by the epithelial cells of the thymus. It is active only in the presence of zinc and is considered an important mediator of T-lymphocyte development and activation. In addition to immunity, studies have also shown its effect on neuroendocrine functions.

How Thymulin works

Thymulin binds to specific T-cell receptors and stimulates their differentiation. In models of inflammatory diseases, it exhibits immunoregulatory and anti-inflammatory effects, and can suppress the activity of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α or IL-6. In animal studies, it has also shown effects on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) pathway.

Researched effects and interesting facts

  • Immunoregulation: support of T-lymphocytes and immunocompetence
  • Anti-inflammatory effect: reduction of inflammatory markers
  • Neuroendocrine stabilization: influencing ACTH and cortisol
  • Supporting regeneration in aging: improving immune response
  • Antioxidant action: potential impact on oxidative stress
