What is LL‑37

LL-37 is a 37-amino acid peptide derived from the precursor hCAP18. It belongs to the cathelicidins, a group of antimicrobial peptides naturally produced by immune system cells. It is scientifically studied in relation to immune signaling, infection, inflammation, and tissue healing.

How LL‑37 works

LL-37 is able to disrupt the cell membranes of bacteria, viruses and fungi. In addition, it modulates inflammatory processes and regulates the activity of macrophages and neutrophils. It also acts as a chemotactic factor and can stimulate angiogenesis and tissue repair. Research is also focusing on its antiviral activity against pathogens such as RSV, HSV and influenza virus.

Researched effects and interesting facts

  • Antimicrobial effects: effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
  • Support for healing: accelerated tissue regeneration and angiogenesis
  • Immunomodulation: regulation of inflammatory cytokines and activation of defense mechanisms
  • Antiviral potential: studies have confirmed the effect against several viruses
  • Respiratory protection: reducing inflammation and defending against infections
