In laboratory studies, ARA-290 is associated with research in areas such as:

  • protection of peripheral nerves and reduction of neuropathic pain,
  • tissue regeneration without stimulation of hematopoiesis,
  • reducing inflammation and oxidative stress,
  • restoration of microcirculation and capillary flow,
  • investigation in diabetic neuropathy and ischemic models.

What is ARA-290?

ARA-290 is a synthetic peptide derivative of erythropoietin, designed to retain the regenerative and anti-inflammatory effects of EPO without stimulating red blood cell production. It aims to activate cytoprotective mechanisms without the risk of increased blood viscosity or erythrocytosis.

How ARA‑290 works

ARA-290 binds to the receptor complex composed of EPOR and CD131 (the so-called innate repair receptor – IRR). This triggers intracellular signaling pathways related to tissue repair, inflammation reduction and neuroprotection. However, it does not activate the EPOR dimer, which is responsible for erythropoiesis – thus avoiding the adverse hematological effects of classic EPO.

Researched effects and interesting facts

  • Neuroprotection: reduction of neuropathic pain and inflammation in peripheral nerves
  • Vascular regeneration: support of capillary flow and endothelial balance
  • Anti-inflammatory effect: suppression of TNF-α, IL-6 and oxidative markers
  • Tissue protection: effects observed in ischemic and diabetic models
  • Without hematological stimulation: does not affect hemoglobin levels or erythropoiesis
